They are popular!

We need your help to explain to more people how schemes work and why they are a good thing for people and our planet, to support local bottle drive actions and to make submissions when the time comes.

Surveys show that 76% of New Zealanders want a bottle deposit scheme here. 2025 research conducted by IPSOS shows voter support spans the political spectrum: 80% National, 80% New Zealand First, 67% ACT, 76% Labour and 84% of Green voters.

A wide range of businesses, councils, recyclers and organisations wrote to the Government asking for a scheme to be introduced. The 2026 Local Government Waste Policy Manifesto strongly supports establishment of a scheme.

Across the motu

People across Aotearoa are looking forward to being able to take back their empties, claim their deposits and trust that the material will get recycled properly.

The fundraising opportunity is getting schools, communities and organisations excited. South Auckland kids raised $477.40 for a school project, counting 2,387 empties in their lunch break.

A Tairāwhiti community dropped off 2,417 empties with $483.40 in deposits going back into the local community.

The Thames Scouts collected 3,928 empties and raised $785.60 saying it was faster and easier than running a sausage sizzle!
