Regeneration not incineration
The Regeneration Not Incineration campaign is a national movement dedicated to protecting communities across Aotearoa from mixed-waste incinerators.
We advocate for authentic zero-waste solutions that regenerate natural systems, rather than destroying embodied energy and releasing greenhouse gases through waste-to-energy schemes.
Let’s keep Aotearoa incinerator-free
It destroys valuable resources
It destroys valuable resources
It destroys valuable resources

Protecting our communities and pushing for real solutions
Waste-to-energy incineration is often promoted as a modern fix, but it locks communities into decades of generating waste to feed expensive, polluting facilities. Burning waste releases toxic air emissions, including heavy metals and dioxins, and produces toxic ash that still requires hazardous landfill storage. Furthermore, incinerators emit significant greenhouse gases, undermining climate targets and diverting critical funding away from circular economy models.
Our campaign unites local frontline groups, health professionals, environmental advocates, and tangata whenua to oppose proposed incinerators across the country. We provide strategic and technical support to communities while lobbying government for policy changes, including a moratorium on new waste-to-energy infrastructure, so Aotearoa can focus on product stewardship, reuse networks, and true resource recovery.
By investing in local repair, composting, and recycling infrastructure, we create significantly more local jobs, protect te taiao, and safeguard public health for future generations.
